The Icknield Way runs from Thetford, Norfolk to Ivinghoe Beacon, Bucks. It's an ancient - possibly prehistoric, at least in parts - trackway that crosses Hertfordshire. 'Indagation' is an archaic word current in the 17th century. It means an investigation or exploration.
